This vowel is rare and is pronounced as [e] in some dialects.

This vowel is marked with the sequence alifu + ye , with the zabara diacritic above the alifu in detached and initial forms. In medial and final forms, "ai" is marked with ye plus the zabar diacritic over the preceding consonant.

Although it is traditionally transcribed as a diphthong, this vowel is pronounced as a long vowel similar to the vowel in American English "bat" by some Sindhi speakers, and as [e] (as in American English "cake") by others.
