Pronunciation Notes

This letter represents the consonant [v]. It is similar to the "v" in American English "very", but it's a softer sound, with a looser constriction of the lower lip and upper teeth. It is used in place of both [w] (as in "wine") and [v] (as in "vine") in borrowed words from American English.

This letter is also used to represent the vowels [u], [uu], [o], and  [au].
