Pronunciation Notes

This letter represents the nasal consonant [rn]. It is a retroflex nasal, pronounced similar to [n] but with the tongue tip curled back as if to make an English "r" sound. This nasal consonant gives an "r" coloring to the vowel that precedes it, which is why it's transcribed here as [rn], but note that it is a single sound and not actually a sequence of [r]-[n].
