Pronunciation Notes

This letter represents the [k] sound, pronounced as the [k] sound (represented by the letter "c") in American English "cat", but without the puff of breathy aspiration immediately following the [k]. In Arabic, this letter represents a version of the "k" sound that is made with the tongue farther back in the mouth (pressing against the uvula), and some Sindhi speakers with knowledge of Arabic may retain this pronunciation. See SCRIPT BASICS: LETTERS USED ONLY IN ARABIC WORDS for more information.
