Pronunciation Notes

This letter represents the unaspirated consonant [t]. It's similar to an American English "t" sound, but it is made with the tongue tip placed more forward in the mouth, just behind the upper teeth. It is pronounced without the puff of breathy aspiration that is typical of American English "t". In American English, this softer [t] sound is the one that occurs after "s", as in the word "stop". See SCRIPT BASICS: LETTERS USED ONLY IN ARABIC WORDS for more information.
