Pronunciation Notes

This letter represents the aspirated consonant [dh]. It's similar to an American English "d" sound, but it is made with the tongue tip placed more forward in the mouth, just behind the upper teeth. It is an aspirated sound, pronounced strongly with a puff of breathy aspiration immediately on the opening of the [d] gesture. See SCRIPT BASICS: PRONUNCIATION TIPS FOR ASPIRATED CONSONANTS for more information.
