Pronunciation Notes

This letter represents the aspirated consonant [ph]. It is pronounced with a puff of breathy aspiration immediately as the lips separate from the [p] gesture, similar to the American English "p" that occurs at the beginning of a word, as in "pan". See SCRIPT BASICS: PRONUNCIATION TIPS FOR ASPIRATED CONSONANTS for more information.
