Pronunciation Notes

This letter represents the aspirated consonant [th]. It's similar to the American English "t" sound, but it is made with the tongue tip placed more forward in the mouth, just behind the upper teeth. It is pronounced with a puff of breathy aspiration immediately following, similar to the American English "t" that occurs at the beginning of a word, as in "top". See SCRIPT BASICS: PRONUNCIATION TIPS FOR ASPIRATED CONSONANTS for more information.
