How to change your security settings in IE

These instructions show you how to add the Sindhi site to your Internet Explorer's "Trusted sites", and then set the security level to LOW for these trusted sites so that you are not constantly bombarded with warnings every time a site you trust includes active content (such as Flash, which is used throughout the Sindhi site for exercises and other interactive activities).

You can include additional sites in your "Trusted" list in IE, but make sure that all the sites you add to this list are indeed trusted by you not to include malicious code. After all, you'll be disabling some of the security measures included in SP2 for these sites.

  1. From the TOOLS menu select "Internet Options..."

  2. Select the "Security" tab at the top; you should see something like the dialog box pictured on the right

  3. Under "Select a Web content zone to specify its security settings" select "Trusted sites" (the green circle with a checkmark through it) and then click on "Sites..." button just below

  1. A dialog box will open like the one pictured on the left

  2. Under "Add this Web site to the zone:" type http://www.linguistics.uiuc.edu/sindhi

  3. Click the "Add" button and you should see this site listed in the window below called "Web sites:"

  4. Make sure the box for "Require server verification (https:) for all sites in this zone" is NOT checked (it will probably be checked by default so click it to clear this setting)

  5. Press OK to close this dialog box and return to the previous one (don't close the previous one, there's one more step)

  1. In the "Internet Options" dialog box (the one pictured at the top of this page) select the "Custom Level..." button towards the bottom

  2. This will open the "Security Settings" dialog box like the one pictured on the right

  3. At the bottom of this box, under "Reset custom settings" select "Low" and click on the "Reset" button

  4. IE will probably ask you if you're sure you want to change these settings; if it does, click on "yes"

  5. Click OK to close this dialog box and return to the previous one; click OK to close that one as well.
