Aphasia in Bi/Multilinguals

This paper draws attention to the existing literature on the topic of language impairment in adults with stroke/brain injury. Specific and related issues of types of bilingualism, patterns of recovery from aphasia, aphasic reactions, and bilingual phenomena such as code switching, code mixing and translation (normal and pathological), the variety of influencing factors in recovery of languages, assessment and intervention aspects in polyglot aphasia are looked at. Research needs from theoretical and clinical standpoint are viewed from Indian perspective. A few studies in this regard are highlighted.
