The idea that philology, the study of linguistic and cultural traditions, could be dangerous might sound preposterous. But 19th-century philological interpretations did, in part, support the “Aryan Myth.” By critically examining recent philological claims regarding the Tarim Mummies (including their “racial” identity) and the exploitation of these claims by neonazis, this presentation attempts to show that philology can be made, if not safe, at least safer.
